    Which one of the following layers of the atmosphere is responsible for the deflection of radio waves?

    Ans (d) Ionosphere

    Ionosphere is the top layer of the atmosphere. In the lower part of the Thermosphere region, between 100 to 400 km, the ionisation of atmospheric gases takes place. This layer is called the ionosphere. There is a peak concentration of ionised particles at 250 km which is why this layer deflects radio waves. Radio waves are deflected in the ionosphere of the atmosphere. Ionosphere is composed of D, E, and F layers. D layer (60 km from the earth) is good at absorbing AM radio waves.
