Let the distance from X to Y = x km
    Speed towards from X to Y = 40 kmph
    Time taken = (x/40)

    Returing spreed from Y to X = 40+(50% of 40) = 40+20 = 60 kmph
Time taken in journey = (x/60)

Average speed for whole journey = Total Distance/Total time

    Total Distance = 2x

    Total time = (x/40+x/60)

    Average speed = 2x/(x/40+x/60) = 4800/100 = 48 kmph

Ist case: Buy a pen = 3 free refills 2nd case: Buy a pen + 6 refills = 4 free refills The extra 6 refills bought in the 2nd case give 1 additional free refill. Therefore, the 1 extra free refill is worth 1/6 of what paid for. If the equivalent discount is the same in both cases 3 free refills = 1/6Read more

Ist case: Buy a pen = 3 free refills

Therefore, the 1 extra free refill is worth 1/6 of what paid for.

If the equivalent discount is the same in both cases
3 free refills = 1/6 of the price of a pen,
    3 x 6 = the price of a pen.
18 refills = the price of the pen

    Ans (b) 18.
